This Blog is going to be multi-faceted, about 5 or 6 separate
entries that feature some special attractions we saw on our
"7-day beat the heat" adventure.
With a temperature forecast like this, we decided to
head for the high country. Destination Durango CO.
Along the way I took 1073 video shots and still photos.
We traveled 1316.3 miles and averaged 33.8 mpg
on our 7 day fact gathering mission.
Here is what we saw on Day 1 as we drove to Gallup NM.

Our major objective... to see Mountains, Pine Trees and Water!!!
Mountains ahead...
Trees, but not the right species...
As we approached Payson, things were looking better.
FYI, In 1918 author Zane Grey made his first trip to the area surrounding
Payson. He would come back with regularity through 1929,
and would purchase two plots of land near Tonto Creek.
Grey wrote numerous books about the area
and also filmed some movies, such as
To the Last Man, in the Payson area in the 1920s.
We checked out Kohls Ranch, a beautiful facility at
an elevation of about 5000' (located on Tonto Creek)
for future hot summer lodging escapes!! They have a lodge, an on-site
restaurant & bar, plus fully stocked cabins for rent and
I see pine trees!!!
We walked the grounds and enjoyed large green trees
and green grass...
and I found a geocache that Don was looking for.
As we headed East up the Mogollon Rim, an
escarpment in AZ, which
is the southwestern edge of the Colorado Plateau,
we stopped once again at the Visitor Center at 7500'.
Then we headed to Holbrook AZ.
A cooling breeze keep the wind turbines moving.
Even though the elevation remained high, the terrain
turned to flat and treeless... and didn't meet the criteria for this
outing...
Stay tuned it does get better and you may even see a
big smile of this face!!!
