Round 2 Day 3.1 Hwy 50 to Hwy 395

Wed May 15 was so eventful, I had to break it into several
parts...  This is day 3 part 1.  Thanks for bearing with me!!!!

As we headed East on Hwy 50 from Folsom, the weather
was already looking nasty.
This entire day was wet, wet, wet...

But all rivers that we passed were raging.  They
included the South Fork of the American River...
and as they drop elevation rapidly, north of Lotus CA they

are raging IV & V class rapids.  Check out Raft California...
nows the time due to the tremendous record breaking snowfall this past winter.

Climbing up to the summit of Hwy 50 is breathtaking
(or scary) even in good weather.

These "S" curves on the edge of a cliff that drops
hundreds of feet are not pleasant for most people...
and if you have vertigo you might want to drive so
you are on the inside.  I'm running the camera and
I vote for scary!!!

Finally we're down to about 6000' elevation

and it's time to head south on Hwy 89 over Luther Pass,
which takes us over 7200' again,  in pouring rain and cold
temperatures... down to 38 degrees!!!

Turning East on Hwy 88 we near the Markleeville CA
junction and Don can't wait to get inside!!!

We've been here many times since my CA hiking group,
The Alta Hikers, has spent the last 15 years in this
area hiking all the beautiful trails near here.
This time no hiking but homemade 3 berry pie and warm
tea was just what I needed.  You can tell that's my piece because
of the left handed fork.  Don had PEACH.

Another Mixed Bag: Ruby + Flowers and other things...

Can you believe this weather for the Sacramento CA area in late JUNE???  Time to head outside. There were interesting vapor trails in a beau...
